Burnham and Highbridge celebrate Britain In Bloom award wins
Celebrations were underway in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge on Thursday (September 16th) after both towns won sought-after awards at the annual Britain In Bloom prize ceremony.
Teams from the towns joined over 200 people at a special awards ceremony in the Assembly Rooms in Bath where they received the good news.
The Burnham In Bloom team - comprising Dave Perrett, Richard Young, Sara White and Jo Brown - received a Silver Gilt award in the Sargent Cup section.
And Highbridge In Bloom's team - consisting of Phil and Pam Lyes, Joyce Curtis, Bill Fisher and Ray Reddish - were also celebrating after scooping a Silver Gilt award in the Ayre Cup section.
Richard Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The Burnham In Bloom team are absolutely delighted to have gone one step further this year and won a Silver Gilt award. We had a feeling we'd do well and thank Sedgemoor District Council, the town council and residents for their support."
Highbridge also received special neighbourhood certificates for Morland Residents' Association, the Friends of Apex Park and St John's School.
"It's wonderful that Highbridge has been recognised in this way - we are very grateful to everyone who helped us this year," Pam Lyes from Highbridge In Bloom told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
And the success didn't stop there, with Highbridge's Dreamscheme also receiving a joint first place with Falmouth School in the South West In Bloom Youth Awards.
The group won a special trophy for the youngsters' hard work during the summer months, making hanging baskets and tidying the town centre.
Highbridge Dreamscheme leader Jason Adams told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "This is a great reward for all the members of the Dreamscheme - we are delighted."
Thursday's awards ceremony was overseen by Bob Flowerdew and Jekka McVicar, two experts who appear on BBC TV and radio gardening programmes.
