MP gives her support to Coast Road footpath protest in Berrow

-

Burnham-On-Sea MP Tessa Munt has given her support to campaigners calling for a new footpath to be built along Coast Road in Berrow.

She joined a protest march, organised by the Berrow Local Action Team, on Saturday (August 14h) where she told protesters that they have her full backing.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am very sympathetic with the campaigners. It’s ludicrous that more has not been done to make this dangerous stretch of road safer.”

“It’s time for some fresh, innovative thinking. Ken Maddock, the leader of the County Council, needs to re-visit his previous decisions, see the community backing here, and work with us to make things happen.”

She added: “This is a dangerous road for pedestrians at all times of the year. When traffic is sparse, it moves faster and when it’s busy at this time of the year, the road is even more dangerous for pedestrians.”

Ken May, Chairman of Berrow’s Local Action, who is pictured above with the MP, said he was happy with how Saturday’s protest had gone, even though the number of protesters was depleted by the poor weather. A further march is planned next Saturday.
