Burnham's General Election candidates set to appear at town debate

Burnham-On-Sea's three main parliamentary candidates in May's General Election are set to meet for a lively debate in the town tonight (Wednesday April 28th).

Conservative MP David Heathcoat-Amory will answer questions with Tessa Munt (Liberal Democrats) and Andy Merryfield (Labour) at the special 'Election Hustings Meeting' in Burnham Baptist Church in College Street, starting at 7.30pm.

Churches from across the Burnham and Highbridge area are organising the meeting, in which members of the public will be able to put their questions to the candidates.

Organisers have defended their decision not to include local candidates from UKIP, the BNP or Green Party at the event.

One of the event's organisers, Brian Beaven, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Although there are likely to be a total of six candidates standing in this constituency, it has been decided to only invite those whose political party will have the most influence in the next Parliament in order that their views can be heard and questioned. Also, if all the candidates were invited there would be less time for questions to be asked."
