Over £700 raised for Burnham-On-Sea hospital at town concert

-

An evening of big band tunes by Highbridge’s King Alfred Concert Band raised more than £700 for the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Hospital on Saturday night (October 23rd).

More than 100 people attended the fundraiser, including Mayor and Mayoress Michael and Maria Clark, at King Alfred School’s Hall.

They were treated to a new musical programme that included solos by talented young musicians in addition to traditional band tunes.

The evening was a successful one for the Friends, with the tombola alone raising over £400, and the overall profit expected to be in excess of £700, all of which will benefit the patients at Burnham Hospital.

Tony Deahl, Chairman of the Friends group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a magnificant evening, enjoyed by all. The large number of people who came and their generosity in supporting the tombola has meant that we have increased our funds significantly.”

“In addition to the £310,000 we have recently put towards the hospital refurbishment we have just spent £4,000 on new dining furniture and £8,000 on new hi-tech mattresses for patients suffering from pressure sores.”

“Consequently, we are in need of more funds. As a bonus, many of the audience joined the Friends to show their support for our local hospital.”

The Mayor was joined by several town councillors at the event – with the Friends of Burnham Hospital being one of the Mayor’s two chosen charities of the year.
