Quilt helps raise hundreds of pounds for Burnham Community Centre

A patchwork quilt that took months to complete by talented members of Burnham-On-Sea's University Of The Third Age has raised hundreds of pounds for the town's Community Centre.

Eleven members of the U3A Patchwork Group hand stitched the huge artwork, which measured 90 x 80 inches.

The item was raffled during a concert at Burnham-On-Sea's Princess Theatre earlier this week where it made £445, with the winning ticket going to a volunteer from Weston General Hospital.

Sunday's fundraising concert included a programme of music from Burnham and Highbridge Town Band and featured works by Edward Elgar, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, The Beatles and film music composers. Solos were also played by John Swift on trombone and Stuart Lovell on cornet.

Ken Hindle, Chairman of Burnham Community Centre, told "The money will go to refurbishing Burnham Community Centre, which is an historical building that plays a vital role for a large number of community groups in the town, including the U3A."
