Quilt helps raise hundreds of pounds for Burnham Community Centre

-

A patchwork quilt that took months to complete by talented members of Burnham-On-Sea’s University Of The Third Age has raised hundreds of pounds for the town’s Community Centre.

Eleven members of the U3A Patchwork Group hand stitched the huge artwork, which measured 90 x 80 inches.

The item was raffled during a concert at Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre earlier this week where it made £445, with the winning ticket going to a volunteer from Weston General Hospital.

Sunday’s fundraising concert included a programme of music from Burnham and Highbridge Town Band and featured works by Edward Elgar, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, The Beatles and film music composers. Solos were also played by John Swift on trombone and Stuart Lovell on cornet.

Ken Hindle, Chairman of Burnham Community Centre, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The money will go to refurbishing Burnham Community Centre, which is an historical building that plays a vital role for a large number of community groups in the town, including the U3A.”
