Final roll-out of recycling scheme underway in Burnham-On-Sea

-

The final roll-out of a new waste recycling service is due to be completed across the Burnham-On-Sea area over the next few weeks.

The final phase of homes being added to the Sort It Plus kerbside collections will commence next week, meaning that everyone in Sedgemoor will then be using the service.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Sort it Plus service sees a variety of free bins being given to every household – a traditional wheeled bin for refuse; a food waste bin; a small food waste ‘caddy’ for collecting kitchen scraps; plus a box for plastic, cardboard and cans – with the aim of reducing waste sent to landfill sites.

Sedgemoor District Council has invested £500,000 a year into the improved recycling service.

Councillor Stuart Kingham, Sedgemoor’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Environment, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It should save money for council tax payers by cutting the burden of landfill taxes and doubling our recycling rate to over 50%, one of the highest recycling rates in the country.”

For information on collections, bins and boxes, residents should contact Sedgemoor District Council on 0845 4082543 or by email at customer.services@sedgemoor.gov.uk.
