-

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP handed out prizes to the winners of an art competition on Saturday (July 17th) during the second day of the town’s arts festival.

Tessa Munt visited the Birds and Beasts Arts Festival at Apex Park, where she took a tour of the exhibits before handing out awards to the winners of a ‘Draw Burnham’ contest.

Tessa is pictured above presenting prizes to John Anderton, who was first, and second-placed Fred Petrie.

The MP also presenting an award to Shannon Bowcott, 5, who came second in the children’s competition. First place went to Samuel Richards, 11, who was not present at the prize-giving.

Competition organiser Judith Champion told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There were over 35 entries to this year’s ‘Draw Burnham’ competition and the standard was very high.”

“All the entrants had the whole day to choose something to draw in the area and this was followed with an informal exhibition at the end of the afternoon, with prizes to the winners.”

Tessa said she was “impressed” with the range and quality of the entries on show.

Burnham’s Birds and Beasts Festival is running until Sunday 18th July, with free entry – the full schedule is here.

Arts group Highbridge and Burnham Artists (HaBA) is organising an array of visual treats, including a sculpture trail around the park, family workshops, live music, an arts and crafts fair, a photography display, a photographic competition and a drawing competition.
