New date to discuss future of Burnham tourist information’s centre

-

The future of Burnham-On-Sea’s Tourist Information Centre looks set to be decided at a new meeting being held later this month.

Last week’s wintry weather led to the postponement of a meeting in Burnham, but the rearranged meeting will be held on Thursday 28th January at 7pm in the town council chambers in Jaycroft Road.

“Sedgemoor District Council has no budget to continue to run the tourist information centres after the end of this financial year and without other sources of funding or new ways of providing the service they will close,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The town and district councils hope that some of the firms and groups who benefit from tourists visiting Burnham will provide funding.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported in November that the centre’s future could be in doubt due to district council funding cuts. The centre also received a sought-after mystery shopper award, as reported here.
