Highbridge greetings card shop to close down in February

A greetings card shop in the centre of Highbridge is set to close down next month after struggling to compete against local supermarkets.

The owner of Ace of Cards in Market Street says she will shut the store in Market Street for the final time soon after Valentines Day.

Beryl Scott told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It comes down to costs and, despite a good start, the shop is unfortunately not paying for itself. We were hoping for better Christmas trade."

"It is very difficult to survive when the supermarkets are selling low-cost greetings cards in such bulk. We can't match their prices."

She added that a closing down sale has begun at the shop and that she plans to close the business in mid-February after Valentines Day.
