Dozens of athletes of all ages took part in Burnham-On-Sea’s final aquathon of 2011 on Sunday morning (October 16th).

The popular event, held under blue skies, saw the participants swimming 750m in Burnham swimming pool and then running 7km along the town’s seafront.

Caroline Jones from Gloucester won the adults event in a time of 37 minutes and 18 seconds, making her 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Gethin Parham from Tredegar.

Six shorter ‘splash and dash’ races were also held in the pool and on the beach for children aged from 8 upwards. Winners were Charlotte Emery, Samuel Arrowsmith, Elizabeth Tolley, Manson Angove, Lucy Davies and Scott Jenkins. Full results are available below.

Organiser Martin Rogers, from Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The event went really well – we had 80 children and 55 adults taking part today. It was great to see so many families on the beach watching the end of the children’s running races.”
