Burnham-On-Sea Youth Centre trustee thanked for 45 years of work

-

A long-serving trustee at the Burnham Area Youth Centre was formally thanked for his work during the past four decades during the group’s AGM on Wednesday (May 18th).

Retiring management trustee Douglas Down, who has held the position for over 45 years since the BAY Centre’s formation, was praised by BAY Centre trustee Cllr Neville Jones and Chair Julia Elswood.

He was presented with a framed photo of the BAY Centre, as pictured here, which included inset photos of events from recent years.

Almost 30 supporters of the centre attended Wednesday’s AGM. At the end of the business, a food hamper and decorated cake was presented to Jim and Warren Frape as a gesture of thanks for their maintenance work over the past year.

Jim, his wife Doreen and son Warren volunteer their time to keep the centre’s roof patched up while £33,000 is being sought for a replacement roof, as recently reported here.

BAY Centre Chair Julia Elswood told Burnham-On-sea.com: “Without volunteers such as Jim, Warren, Doreen and Douglas we would not be able to operate, for each help in their own way. Thanks also to Ian and Jo Jefferies for their outstanding administration expertise.”

It was noted that that several new groups are now regularly using the centre, including an art class run by Burnham artist Judith Champion, Highburn Athletic Sunday Football Club and a Monday activity club run by Julia Elswood.
