Busy day of events lined up in Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday

Residents and visitors to Burnham-On-Sea will be spoilt for choice for free entertainment today (Sunday, August 7th) on one of the busiest days of the year for the town.

Dozens of emergency services from across the West Country will be gathering on the South Esplanade from 10am-4pm to take part in the town’s annual rescue services day. Scores of displays and demonstrations will be held on the seafront and beach with displays from hovercrafts, lifeboats, micro-lights and more. Almost 40 different emergency groups will be taking part, including BARB, the RNLI, HM Coastguard, Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Burnham lifeguards, Somerset Fire and Rescue and the ambulance service. Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club will also be holding a Fun Day in the town’s Manor Gardens between 11am and 4.30pm. The event will include a number of attractions, including a bouncy castle, a ‘terror slide’, a barbecue, competitions, trade stands and a fancy dress parade with an animal theme from 11.20am plus several displays from local youth groups. Meanwhile, dozens of paintings by Burnham Art Club members are on display at Burnham Community Centre, where the event was opened on Friday evening (August 5th) by the town’s Mayor and Mayoress. The free exhibition features the work of local artists and is running every day from 10am-5pm until Friday August 12th at the centre in Berrow Road next to Burnham Swim and Sports Academy. Music fans have lots to look forward to as well. Berrow’s annual Gig on The Green is also being held on Sunday with a great line-up of live music acts. Opening the show will be ‘The 335’ from London, followed by well-known local band ‘The Trisexual Winkers’, Two Choices from Brighton, Cliff Moore and his band Saffron Monkey and the Wrinkly Rappers. The free event will run from 12.30pm onwards and will also include a bar, barbecue, stalls, children’s inflatables and more. More details here.

Burnham-On-Sea music group Rustique will be one of the local groups playing at a free outdoor concert in Highbridge on Sunday (August 7th). Called ‘Music On The Green’, the event will be held on the Green in Market Street from 12.30pm-5pm. It will be headlined by Adam and Alex lipinski, known as The Lipinski Brothers, and supported by Adam Smith and Friends on guitar, Monkey Flush playing bluegrass and Rustique (pictured) with their unique songs and tunes. Meanwhile, Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll will also be holding a fundraising craft fair on Sunday. The event will be open from 10am until 5pm and will be raising money for Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service. More details here.
