Search begins for new Burnham and Highbridge Carnival Queen

The search has begun for this year's Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival Queen and Princesses.

Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club has this week kicked off the annual hunt for this year's contestants, who will take a leading role in this autumn's carnival.

The competition is open to girls aged 16 and over for the position of queen, and to youngsters aged 7-15 for the princesses.

All contestants must live within six miles of Highbridge or Burnham and be available on the evening of the Carnival, Monday 7th November.

The Carnival Queen and Princess Selection Evening will be held on Saturday 30th July at Burnham's Princess Theatre And Arts Centre.

The evening will start with a pre-contest briefing at 7.15pm and judging will begin at 8pm, followed by an evening of entertainment hosted by Russell Dyson with music provided by local DJ Paul Hayle.

There will also be an interlude with dancing from Highbridge's Lucy Gunter Dance School. Admission will be £3 for adults and £1 for under 16s on the door.

The winner of the competition will become the Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Queen, accompanied by two Princesses.

The Carnival Queen will be asked to attend events throughout the year, including the presentation of trophies to the winning Carnival Clubs and the presentation of cheques to those charitable organisations that help the Carnival.

To have the opportunity of winning £300 as the Carnival Queen or £100 as a Princess, get your entry form now by calling 01278 792534. The deadline for entries is Friday 17th July 2010 and the entry fee is £10.
Entry Forms are also available online - the Queen entry form is here and the Princess entry form is here.
