Highbridge factory evacuated as fire crews investigate gas leak

-

Staff at a Highbridge factory were evacuated on Tuesday evening (December 6th) following a suspected gas leak.

Two fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater were called to Isleport Foods, as pictured, after staff reported a strong smell of gas inside the building in Bolton Close.

Fire spokesman Paul Slavin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Staff were evacuated as a precaution while crews entered the building to investigate the source of the suspected gas escape.”

“Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus checked the building over using a gas monitor, and found the levels were falling quickly.”

The source of the leak was unclear, but one staff member said it was possible a pipe had been slightly damaged during some internal work. Once the building was deemed safe by the crews, staff returned.
