Dozens of kite buggying enthusiasts from across the UK converged on Brean on Sunday (March 20th) to take part in an endurance race.

More than 20 teams from as far afield as London, Wales and Plymouth took part in the event, which was organised by the South West Association of Traction Kiting.

They were hoping that forecasted strong onshore winds would propel them along the sands but, instead, calmer weather meant racing was cut back.

Organiser Al McHardy told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, the wind seemed to die just two minutes before the start of racing, but some limited racing still went ahead.”

“We were pleased to have several British team members among the 22 teams taking part.”

Sunday’s event was named the Connor Memorial Race in memory of a 14 year-old club member who died of a brain tumour.
