A former Bristol City footballer visited Highbridge on Wednesday (September 21st) to play in a fundraising match with a group of school students.

Scott Murray played in a special game at King Alfred School, where he joined the students’ side against a team of teachers.

The match raised £442 towards the cost of the pupils going on a once-in-a-lifetime educational trip to Morocco next year.

The closely-fought game was watched by a large crowd of cheering pupils, which ended with a final score of 3-0 to the teachers!

“We’re very grateful to everyone who supported us during Wednesday’s game, which was a lot of fun,” one of the fundraising group, Curtis Sanders, told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “We were delighted to have Scott join us for the match.”

The students team consisted of Jenny Yip, Monty Parrot, Tom Hurley, Buffy Beck, Scott Murray, Jamie Hand, Curtis Sanders, Samantha Gamble, George Gay and Wayne Hand.

The teachers team comprised of Mr Stearns, Mr O’Connor, Mr Shephard, Mr Harris, Mr Pavey, Mr Watts, Mr Bowker, Mr Knaresborough, Mr Waterhouse, Mr Lockett, Mr King and Mr Chapel.

If they can raise £14,000, the students are hoping to go on the 10-day educational trip and live out in the Sahara desert, trekking through the Torda gorge and experiencing what life is like in one of the most secluded places on Earth while conducting community work. Burnham-On-Sea.com will continue to follow the group’s fundraising efforts.
