in Brent Knoll and Highbridge closed by strike action
schools in the Burnham-On-Sea area are being affected by a national
strike by teachers today (Thursday, June 30th).
Churchfield School in Highbridge and Brent Knoll School are both
closed to all pupils.
And King Alfred School is also close to pupils in years seven
It comes as members of the National Union of Teachers and the
Association of Teachers and Lecturers join the industrial action
Churchfield head teacher Wendy Nelder told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"About half our staff are joining the strike, so we have
taken the regrettable decision not to open that day."

King Alfred - Closed for years 7-10
And King Alfred School head teacher Andy Owen said: "This
action is not against the school itself but is part of national
industrial action organised by these trade unions about changes
to the pension scheme of their members."
"Having conducted a risk assessment and having consulted
with the governing body I regret to inform you that due to this
industrial action the school will be closed on Thursday, June
30, to students in years seven and ten. Please note that year
seven camp will go ahead as planned, as will year ten work experience.
The school will be open for year 12 students.
He added: "We must all hope that the issues over which the
industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible."
