Highbridge St John Badgers win regional first aid competition

-

Highbridge’s St John Ambulance Badgers were celebrating today (Sunday, September 11th) after winning the regional heats of a top competition.

The team of Leah Adams, Courtney Gibbs-Jones and Ophelia Hazelton-Cavill competed against teams from across the south west and shared overall first place and were also named best first aiders. They will now go on to represent the south west in the national finals in October.

The entrants for the annual St John Badgers first aid competition came from as far afield as Gloucester and Devon and were all under 11 years of age.

They had to show competence in dealing with a casualty, dealing with an emergency phone call, and demonstrating an understanding of recycling as part of an extra eco-friendly subject test.

“Highbridge Badgers, who were representing Somerset in the competition, have been training hard on Friday evenings for this event and it paid off handsomely,” Neil Adams, Highbridge Badger Assistant Leader, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Their performance in the first aid section of the competition means that they were awarded the trophy for overall winners. All the teams that competed should be commended for the high standards of first aid displayed.”

Leah, Courtney and Ophelia will next represent the whole South West region in the national competition to be held in Swindon on October 29th.
