Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat education officer receives award

-

Tony Deahl, Education Officer at Burnham-On-Sea RNLI Lifeboat Station has been awarded a award in recognition of his work at the station.

The bronze medal was presented at the RNLI Lifeboat College in Poole by the coxswain of Brixham lifeboat.

Tony has been Education Officer at the station for the past five years when he retired from teaching at Highbridge’s King Alfred School.

Tony told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I see this award as recognition of the work done by the education team at the station rather than an award to me individually.”

“During the past six years my team has visited many schools to talk about the work of the RNLI and sea safety and during this time we have hosted thousands of children at the lifeboat station, the majority from Somerset schools but also many from the Midlands and youth groups.”

“We have also had visits from Rotary clubs, Young Farmers, Round Tablers. Many of the visits have been in conjunction with the hovercraft group at BARB and Burnham Coastguards.”

“These combined visits to the three rescue services are particularly appreciated by schools in Dudley, Kidderminster, Cheltenham etc as they combines an educational visit with a day at the seaside towards the end of the summer term.”
