Emergency crews called to girl stuck on Burnham-On-Sea beach

-

A young girl became stuck in mud on Burnham-On-Sea beach on Friday afternoon (March 9th), prompting a call-out for the town’s emergency services.

Burnham Coastguards, BARB’s rescue hovercraft and a fire rescue crew were called to the South Esplanade at 4.40pm after the family of the 12 year-old reported the youngster in difficulty.

The girl’s mother, Karen Collins, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were unaware of the dangers and my daughter went out a bit too far while playing on the beach.”

“Fortunately, she managed to free herself just as the emergency services arrived.”

An ambulance crew checked the girl as a precaution and Burnham Coastguards gave the family beach safety advice.

“The youngster was shaken up, but otherwise unhurt. The incident serves as a reminder about the dangers of walking into mud on our local beaches,” Burnham Coastguard Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The family – who are from Stevenage, Hertfordshire – are staying at Burnham Holiday Village.
