Thousands of pounds was raised for Children In Need across the Burnham-On-Sea area on Friday (November 16th) during a series of fundraising events.

Schools, clubs and businesses joined in the annual BBC fundraising marathon.

Among them were pupils and staff at Brent Knoll Primary School, right, who donated money so that they could come to school wearing spots and striped clothes.

Headteacher Karen Davidson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and the School Council are busy counting all the money they’ve raised. They had reached a £100 the last time I checked!”

The children at Southleigh Kindergarten in Burnham also joined in with fun spotty-themed activities including decorating cakes, drawing spots and dressing up in their favourite costumes.

Meanwhile, several residents set their alarm clocks early to meet BBC Somerset’s Emma Britton on her challenge to visit an A-Z of locations across Somerset in under 12 hours for BBC Children in Need.

One of those who met Emma was Beverley Milner Simonds, who said she was really pleased to be told that Burnham had been chosen to be the ‘B’ in the challenge.

“It is great to have the spotlight on Burnham and to be a part of such a high profile fund-raising campaign,” she said.

Beverley was joined by a group of locals including Mike and Sylvia Young from BiARS, plus Mike Smith, who brought along some of his bacon butties, made from local free range pork, and Sarah Milner Simonds with some bunting!
