Friends of Burnham Hospital publish new information leaflet

-

The Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Hospital have this week published a new edition of their information leaflet.

This updates the blue and red leaflets that have been in circulation in recent years and gives a brief history of the hospital plus examples of the facilities and equipment that the Friends have funded in the 46 years of their existence.

In this time almost £2m has been spent by the group on the hospital, including paying for the conservatory, the Peter Holmes Annexe and numerous beds, mattresses and other equipment.

The Friends rely on the generosity of local people who appreciate having a community hospital allowing local in-patients to be nearer home often saves out-patients having to travel to Weston or Musgrove to visit consultant clinics.

The new leaflet is available around town, in doctors surgeries, libraries, opticians, dentists and in the hospital.

The leaflet also contains an application form for those who wish to join the Friends.

Tony Deahl, Friends’ Chairman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We want people to know about their local hospital and have an opportunity to join us. £5 each year is very little to show appreciation for a facility which is an important feature of our community.”

“Although there is no whisper of any possible future closure of community Hospitals – indeed the Trust has invested heavily in community hospitals in Somerset – there is no knowing what the present or future government might decide to do in an effort to save money.”

“We need a large number of people to show their support for the Burnham Hospital and joining the Friends is one way of doing this.”
