Burnham-On-Sea Regatta sails to success despite poor weather

Burnham-On-Sea's
annual sailing regatta ended on Sunday evening (July 1st) after
a weather-interrupted fortnight.
The
stormy conditions meant the number of races taking place in Bridgwater
Bay over the past two weekends was cut - but there was still some
keen competition.
The
event ended on Sunday evening with a traditional presentation
at Burnham Sailing Club where first place was shared jointly between
Andy Walker with the yacht Merlin and Geoff Tanner with Melody.
The handicap race was won by Andy and Sue Walker on Merlin, with
Geoff Tanner on Melody in second and Rod Southwell on Walrus in
third.
The
pursuit race was won by Geoff Tanner on Melody, followed by Rod
Southwell on Walrus, while D Jackson was third on Super Saphire.
A
spokesman said there had been close competition despite smaller
fleets caused by the poor weather.
