Olympic torch seller posts photo of torch as ‘bean pole for climbers’

-

Controversial Burnham-On-Sea Olympic torch-bearer Sarah Milner Simonds has published a photo on Twitter of her torch being used as a “bean pole for her flower climbers”.

She posted the photo on the social networking website on Monday, as the saga into the failed eBay sale of her torch for £153,100 continued.

Sarah told Burnham-On-Sea.com last week she had received many hurtful messages from some Internet users who claimed she was her undermining the Olympic message, a claim she has consistently denied.

“I am simply trying to sell my torch to raise money for a grass-roots community group, The People’s Plot,” she said.

She is awaiting the outcome of eBay’s enquiry into the hoax bidder who sabotaged the £153,100 sale and may take the torch to an auction house in the hope that there may still be a collector who would like to buy it.

“Whatever the bidder’s objection, I acted to support a cause I believe passionately in,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

“I want to help real people create gardens for people to get together in, to grow things, to grow communities. My community is Burnham and this was a way of raising funds to plough back into our lovely landscape.”

“Once eBay has worked through its processes I’ll be able to think about what to do next. But meanwhile, I am busy coaching local gardeners and planning our next community projects.”

“My street was built where there used to be an orchard. We have got together with all our neighbours to recreate the orchard with a harvest we can all share.”
