Asda unveils new plans for low-cost Highbridge petrol station

-

Asda has this week unveiled brand new plans to build a low-cost petrol station outside its Highbridge store.

The store has updated its original plans, which attracted a number of objections earlier this year, as first reported here, prompting the scheme to be subsequently withdrawn by Asda.

However, the supermarket giant has now made changes to its plans and has now resubmitted a new application for an eight-pump, automated petrol station.

The proposed petrol station’s entrance and exit locations have been reversed to address road safety concerns.

The petrol station is still earmarked for the small parking area on the roadway into the Caxton Road store, pictured right.

The changes come after the original scheme attracted an objection from Somerset County Council’s Transport Development Group which raised concerns about the “unacceptable” restricted visibility for motorists leaving the station – a point that has been addressed in the new scheme.

Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department has started its consultation on the new scheme and is welcoming feedback from residents until October 25th.
