Shrub cleared from Berrow dunes by conservation volunteers

Berrow's sand dunes were given a big clean-up by a group of conservation volunteers on Sunday (February 24th).

More than a dozen volunteers from Bristol University Conservation Group made their annual visit to the nature reserve to undertake sea buckthorn scrub clearance.

"Since its introduction less than a century ago, the sea buckthorn has spread over about half of the reserve, leading to the loss of much of the species-rich grassland habitat," Sedgemoor District Council's landscape officer Janette Burton told

The reserve is owned and managed by the council and is included within the Berrow Dunes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
