Tributes paid to Di Monaghan, former Burnham Youth Centre Chairman

-

Tributes have this week been paid to well known Burnham-On-Sea resident Di Monaghan, who was the former Chairman of the Burnham Area Youth Centre.

Di, who has died at the age of 57, was Chairman of the BAY Centre from 2001-2006 and was given a civic award by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council in 2005 in recognition of her work.

Di recently moved from Burnham to Taunton and was manager of Mind In Sedgemoor, a charity that offers mental health counselling and advice.

She is fondly remembered by many in Burnham. Current BAY Centre Chairman Julia Elswood told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I took over my role from Di and have found she has left such a legacy behind her. Her contribution at the BAY Centre was significant – she raised the funds for the building’s extra extension and she also set up several popular groups that are still running today. Di received a well-deserved civic award for her valuable contribution to our community and will be greatly missed.”

Neville Jones, a long-time trustee at the BAY Centre, added: “Di was very enthusiastic for everything she undertook and will be missed by many. She was well known locally in Burnham and always had a cheery word for those she met.”

And Mike Lang, current Vice Chairman at the BAY Centre, added: “Di was very dedicated to her role and gave herself to the community. She will be much missed by the many people who knew her.”

Di died suddenly at her home. Her family said she will be much missed by her loving husband Tony, and children Carl, Tris, Tim and Sally. A celebration of her life will take place at Holy Trinity Church in Bridgwater on February 25th at 2pm.
