Prominent Burnham-On-Sea town centre shop to close this Spring

-

A prominent clothing shop in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea is to close this Spring after becoming a victim of the ongoing financial downturn.

DP Menswear in the High Street has started a final closing sale this week ahead of the shop’s closure.

Owner Dennis Preedy, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that shutting the store has been a difficult decision to make.

“We opened in 2006 and the first couple of years went well but since the recession began our trade has fallen away.”

“People just don’t seem to have the money these days and there’s sadly no other option for us but to shut down.”

“I do think that since Shickles shoe shop closed further along the High Street in 2011, Burnham has not been attracting the same higher-end shopper and this hurt us too.”

Dennis added: “Our closing sale will last for a couple of months or until the stock sells out and we will then formally shutter up the shop.”

A Burnham Chamber of Trade spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are sorry to see DP Menswear closing, which will be missed by shoppers in the High Street. That said, Burnham still has a great range of independent shops and there is plenty for shoppers to see and visit.”
