1,000 crowd into Manor Gardens for Burnham’s FolkFest 2013 finale

-

Over 1,000 people crowded into Burnham-On-Sea’s Manor Gardens this afternoon (Sunday) to enjoy the finale of this year’s FolkFest.

Organisers said the eighth annual event, which started on Thursday, has been the ‘best yet’ with record crowds throughout the weekend, including on Saturday as we reported here.

Burnham’s Manor Gardens saw its biggest-ever turnout as good weather encouraged large numbers of families and music fans to attend the final afternoon of what has been another hugely successful festival.

Sunday’s performers included guitarist Steve Brown, Bristol-based Firefly, this year’s BBC Young Folk Awards winners Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, Skimmity Hitchers and the young Welsh folk rock band Rusty Shackle, who were the final act of the weekend.

Folkfest Chairman Dom Wills told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was delighted with how the weekend has gone. He said: “Sunday’s audience was our biggest ever in the Manor Gardens and that befits the bill – it was simply fantastic.”

“We are really delighted with how the whole weekend has gone – the town has got behind the event and they were treated to some great entertainment. We also had an outstanding team of volunteers helping us, including Hillview Carnival Club as stewards, thank everyone who has supported FolkFest during the weekend.”
