Met Office warns of 70mph winds in Burnham-On-Sea tonight

-

Burnham-On-Sea residents have been warned that gales could bring disruption to the area this evening (Saturday, November 2nd).

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning and says a deep area of low pressure will track eastwards during the course of Saturday, bringing a spell of very windy weather to the area.

“The strongest winds are expected to affect parts of southwest England during Saturday afternoon and evening, along with squally heavy showers. With many trees still in leaf, the forecast wind gusts are likely to lead to some trees being brought down, whilst leading to difficult driving conditions and also affecting outdoor events. Large waves and some over-topping may affect parts of the coast,” says a Met Office spokesman.

“Westerly winds will strengthen through Saturday afternoon and into the evening, bringing gusts of 50-60 mph to many parts of the warning area, and locally 70mph along exposed west facing coasts.”

“The public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption, particularly to travel.”

Meamwhile, the Met Office has also warned that rain, heavy at times, is expected over southwest England on Sunday evening which could affect Burnham’s fireworks display. Burnham-On-Sea.com will have the latest details on Sunday.
