Brean Golf Club members raise over £7,000 for local cancer charity

-

Members of Brean Golf Club have raised thousands of pounds for a local charity that helps cancer sufferers.

PETAL – The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust was chosen as the Captain’s Charity of 2012 as chosen by Stewart Garrett and a cheque for £7,385 has been handed over during Brean Golf Club’s annual Presentation evening.

The event, hosted in the Tavern by Richard and Bridget House, the club’s Men’s and Ladies Presidents, was attended by almost 100 members and guests and concluded with the Club Captain Stewart Garrett handing over the sizeable cheque to Scott Woodberry, a trustee from the charity.

Scott explained how PETAL would distribute the money to help people and families affected by cancer and thanked the members of the golf club for such a great fundraising effort considering the poor weather of 2012 and the current tough economic climate.

During the evening, Brean Golf Club Bar Mananger Les Byrne, pictured, was awarded the Club Person of the Year accolade. Les ran the Bristol Half Marathon in September to raise funds for the Captain’s Charity. He raised around £500 thanks to the generosity of members and friends at the golf club. He said he was greatly honoured to be recognised.
