Hillview Carnival Club holds ’emergency meeting’ amid volunteer crisis

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club held an ’emergency meeting’ last night (Monday) to discuss the future of the club amid a volunteer crisis.

The club has seen many of its vital helpers who design and build its float moving to Bridgwater clubs in recent months, leaving it so short of volunteers that pulling out of this year’s carnival has been considered.

Hillview Chairman Mark Bishop, pictured below, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The emergency meeting was held because we’ve suffered a big downturn in membership plus problems with moving sites.”

“The meeting was called to decide whether we would take part in this year’s carnival.”

“I’m relieved to say that it was attended by over 20 people and we’ve decided to do our upmost to pull out all the stops to take part in this November’s carnival.”

“We are in a rocky patch – but it’s not the first time our membership numbers have been down – and we encourage local residents to come forward and help us.”

The club will hold an open meeting on July 7th at 7pm at the Bristol Bridge Inn in Highbridge.

“Local people from the Burnham and Highbridge area are encouraged to come along, meet us and find out how to get involved.”

“We really need help to keep going and ensure that we reach our 40th year in 2014.”
