Visitors flock to beaches in Burnham area to walk off festive excesses

-

A bright start to 2013 brought crowds of New Year’s Day walkers to beaches in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Tuesday.

Large numbers of visitors took advantage of the dry, bright conditions – rarely seen in recent weeks – to flock to beaches in Brean and Burnham.

Brean beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com it had been a “very busy” day, with over 500 vehicles parked along the beach during the course of the day, as pictured.

Staff at the Brean Down cafe, run by the National Trust, also experienced an exceptionally busy day of trade which was welcome after weeks of rain and flooding in nearby Warren Road leading to the Down.
