Former England Rugby captain Lewis Moody was the special guest at Burnham-On-Sea Rugby Club’s annual dinner and awards presentation night on Friday (May 17th).

Lewis ‘Mad Dog’ Moody MBE – who played most recently for Bath Rugby and was part of England’s 2003 World Cup winning side – gave an after dinner speech and handed out the club’s awards at Brean Leisure Park.

Burnham Rugby Club Chairman Caine Harding told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a great turnout of over 200 people for this year’s dinner.”

“Lewis was a fantastic speaker and guest who I’m sure attracted many additional visitors.”

“It was a great event overall and special thanks go to organiser Lisa McKen for all her work, plus the House family for hosting the event at Brean and our sponsors and supporters for all their backing of the club.”

Awards were handed out during the evening to the club’s leading players from the past year, including Brian Edwards (clubman of the year), Sam Coles (1st team player’s player of the year) and Matt Slater (2nd team player’s player of the year).

Other winners were Mike Nash and Mason Shaw (colt of the year), Ross McKecan (most improved), Ben Stacey (young player of the year), Tim Piper (1st team captain’s player of the year), Lee Berry (2nd team captain’s player of the year), 1st team pack (Herd Award) and Brian Webb (man of the match award).
