Opening times of seafront loos in Burnham extended over summer

-

Opening times at public loos on Burnham-On-Sea seafront have been extended over the summer holidays, Sedgemoor District Council has said this week.

The council says it had responded “over a month ago” to requests to keep the public conveniences on the South Esplanade open for longer during the holiday season.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report here in June that tourism bosses and councillors were unhappy about the previous opening times.

“The loos are now open for longer hours, until 7 pm, throughout the school holidays. At the end of the school holidays, the opening times will be reviewed in conjunction with the weather conditions,” a Sedgemoor spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

The Victoria Hotel at Burnham also hosts a ‘community comfort scheme’, a partnership between Sedgemoor District Council and local businesses to provide public loo facilities.

Sedgemoor says it always happy to consider other businesses to take part in the scheme. The fees it pays the business are determined by the quality of the facilities, the hours they open and other factors such as baby-changing facilities.

The scheme helps the Council provide better and more facilities for visitors and it helps local businesses by adding to the local economy.

Provision of public conveniences is not a statutory duty for Sedgemoor District Council.
