Safety fears raised over long-running roadworks at busy junction

-

Incomplete roadworks left for several weeks at a busy road junction in Highbridge are posing a danger to motorists and pedestrians, a town councillor has warned this week.

Cllr Chris Williams has called for the work at the junction of the Mulholland Park estate and Worston Road to be quickly completed before an accident happens.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Incomplete roadworks, an unfinished pavement and an alteration in traffic priorities are causing problems.”

“Although the work is going ahead to the original 2007 plans, inappropriate parking opposite the junction plus the new very tight alignment are making access for buses, and other large vehicles, much more difficult.”

He added: “Properties nearest the junction are most at risk as traffic now enters and exits the estate at a considerably higher speed than previously.”

“In many local people’s opinion, this is an accident waiting to happen.”

“New signs and doubles yellow lines opposite the junction are the minimum requirement to reduce the risk to all types of road users.”

A Somerset County Council spokesman said: “In light of these concerns being raised, our estate roads inspector will visit the area shortly.”
