Autumn beach clean-ups completed at Berrow and Brean

A beach clean-up operation was held in Brean and Berrow at the weekend during a nationwide initiative to rid the UK's beaches of litter.

The autumn beach clean was held at Berrow, pictured, on Saturday and Brean on Sunday with volunteers scouring the sand for litter and dangerous objects.

The Marine Conservation Society organised the events, which were supported by Sedgemoor District Council, who provided bags and litter-picking equipment.

Tom Bell, MCS Campaigns Manager, says: "Fifty years ago, beach litter hardly existed. Today it’s a serious environmental concern. We created this problem and the solution is in our hands."

"Clean beaches will save the lives of some of our best loved marine wildlife. It'll protect our kids building sand castles. It'll be a joy to people visiting in the late Summer and show the world what the British seaside really looks like."
