Burnham duo set to help typhoon-hit communities in the Philippines

Two Burnham-On-Sea teenagers are planning to visit the Philippines to help rebuild and repair communities badly affected by recent typhoons.

James Whitrow and Tom Creswick have launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of their trip to the country next year.

James told "We will be helping to rebuild and repair the homes and schools of people whose lives were so badly affected by last year's typhoon Haiyan, and most recently Hagupit."

"We are hoping to go with a charity called Projects Abroad, who run and organise the whole project. During our visit we will be staying with a local Filipino family on the outskirts of Cebu. We'll live and work around the city, helping those affected."

He added: "In order to do this we must raise a total of around £2,000 each. This money will cover the costs of supplies for rebuilding schools, hospitals, houses and aid centres, as well as accommodation to the people who devote their time to helping rebuild and stabilise local communities."

"We hope local residents will support our effort to help people in the Philippines after the horrific disaster back in 2013. It's an awful lot to raise but with the help of the community and our friends, we hope we will be able to go."

The duo have an online donations page here where funds are accepted.
