Field of poppies to be planted in Burnham-On-Sea's Manor Gardens

A stunning display of poppies is to be held in Burnham-On-Sea during a special tribute to those who died in conflicts.

During the build-up to Burnham's annual Remembrance Day service, silk poppies are to be sold to the public in the town which will then be planted in Manor Gardens to create a scarlet field of floral war tributes.

More than 100 poppies were bought at the last farmers’ market in the town and they will also be on sale at the next market on Friday, October 31st and in Burnham supermarkets from October 23rd.

They will then be planted in the Manor Gardens during a special event to be held on Sunday October 26th at 2.30pm.

Organiser Gaynor Brown from the Burnham Poppy Appeal told "We'd love to see 1,000 poppies planted there, which is our target. It would look very special. We have sold just over 100 so far but there are plenty of other opportunities for people to buy one over the next few weeks."

She said that a similar poppy display is being held at the Tower of London where ceramic poppies are being planted in a moat.
