100 classic vehicles heading to Burnham seafront this evening
100 classic vehicles will arrive on Burnham-On-Sea's seafront
this evening (Saturday, June 7th) for a very special 21st Vale
of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.
popular annual event will show off a wide range of vintage vehicles,
from cars, lorries and military vehicles, to emergency service
cars and motorbikes.
run will start in Glastonbury and the vehicles will then finish
in Burnham-On-Sea's Pier Street Car Park on the South Esplanade
at around 6.30pm.
year's event will be particularly special as it is being dedicated
to one of the show's founders, Daphne Stone, who sadly passed
away in March.
husband and co-organiser, Dennis, pictured here on the left,
says he is still trying to come to terms with the loss of
his wife of 57 years, but has decided that this years road
run must go ahead.
talked to a friend, and he told me: Daphne ran the road run for
over 20 years. She was the road run. If you do not have it this
year, all her work will have been for nothing," said Dennis.
event is estimated to have raised over £40,000 for charities
and good causes throughout its history and this years event
will be raising money for Help for Heroes.
cars will be on show throughout the evening and the Mayor of Burnham,
Cllr Martin Cox, will present awards to the best vehicles.
