Over 100 classic vehicles heading to Burnham seafront this evening

Over 100 classic vehicles will arrive on Burnham-On-Sea's seafront this evening (Saturday, June 7th) for a very special 21st Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run.

The popular annual event will show off a wide range of vintage vehicles, from cars, lorries and military vehicles, to emergency service cars and motorbikes.

The run will start in Glastonbury and the vehicles will then finish in Burnham-On-Sea's Pier Street Car Park on the South Esplanade at around 6.30pm.

This year's event will be particularly special as it is being dedicated to one of the show's founders, Daphne Stone, who sadly passed away in March.

Her husband and co-organiser, Dennis, pictured here on the left, says he is still trying to come to terms with the loss of his wife of 57 years, but has decided that this year’s road run must go ahead.

"I talked to a friend, and he told me: Daphne ran the road run for over 20 years. She was the road run. If you do not have it this year, all her work will have been for nothing," said Dennis.

The event is estimated to have raised over £40,000 for charities and good causes throughout its history and this year’s event will be raising money for Help for Heroes.

The cars will be on show throughout the evening and the Mayor of Burnham, Cllr Martin Cox, will present awards to the best vehicles.
