Over 190 children took part in Burnham-On-Sea's annual youth parade on the town's beach on Saturday (July 12th).

Groups from across Burnham and Highbridge joined the procession along the sands, which was held to celebrate youth activities in the two towns.

A total of 193 children joined the parade, which started at Maddock's Slade and headed along the sands to the jetty, where a fun day was held.

Organiser Jonathan Smith told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The parade was a great success and showcased the many great activities on offer for young people in Burnham and Highbridge. Our thanks go to all who joined in and supported us."

After the procession, there was a well-supported sandcastle building competition on the beach.

And this was followed by a fun day on The Esplanade lawns, which was organised by the town's Carnival Queen, Emma Nicholson.

She said: "When I was crowned last year I was determined to do something unforgettable during my year as Carnival Queen. I also wanted to raise money for three local groups - Think Amy, Burnham Pantomime Society and Children's Hospice South West."

"The fun day went really well and we had a good number of visitors. I'm very grateful to all those who took part, including the marshalls, local groups and those who donated money for these good causes."

Gaynor Brown from BOSH Events, which oversaw the event, added: "I'm really pleased with how the day went - we had good engagement from many local groups and great local support too. The parade is a lot easier and safer to run on the beach rather than through the town, so we'll be looking to hold it again there next year."
