MP opens Burnham-On-Sea care home's £20,000 new-look facilities

A care home in Burnham-On-Sea unveiled a £20,000 refurbishment of its facilities on Saturday (December 5th).

Abbeyfield in Burnham's Berrow Road welcomed the town's MP James Heappey and the Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke, to perform the official launch of its modernised premises.

Abbeyfield opened in 1974 as an independent supported living residential home registered with charitable and corporate status and it's affiliated to the national Abbeyfield charity, based in St Albans.

Henry Nevill, Chairman of Abbeyfield's Executive Committee, told "We unveiled a super new suite of offices after completing an expensive programme of changes."

"Abbeyfield, our main charity, recently unveiled new core standards for all its care homes to adhere to around the country."

"We have completed that work and refurbished our offices to create a new board meeting room, refurbished the kitchen and other rooms, and put in new computer equipment, to bring everything up to modern standards."

The home in Burnham is mainly run by volunteers, ably helped by Diane Brown, the house manager/caretaker, and Chris Rogers, the administrator/secretary.
