Oops! New cycle rack installed in Burnham last week is demolished

-

A new cycle rack installed in Burnham-On-Sea High Street less than a week ago as part of the town centre’s ongoing improvements has been removed after being struck by a vehicle.

Town Council Clerk Denise Emery told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Unfortunately, the cycle racks outside George Reed Gallery in the High Street were badly damaged this week. It’s very regrettable beause they were only installed a few days ago.”

“CCTV footage is being examined by Sedgemoor District Council to see if it holds any information about what happened. We would ask anyone who saw the incident to get in touch with us at the Town Council.”

She added: “We are going to get new cycle racks ordered and re-installed in that area.”

The town centre improvement project, which is being overseen by the Town Council, aims to enhance the appearance of Burnham town centre and encourage more shoppers and visitors.

The work includes installing new lighting columns in the High Street, plus finger posts, lighting columns in Victoria Street, plus flower planters, cycle racks, hanging baskets and event banner columns. A new events area in the centre of the High Street is also set to be built.
