Mayor congratulates Burnham’s darts world champion Gary Anderson

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor has congratulated local darts star Gary Anderson, who has become world champion after an exciting final at the PDC World Championships last night (Sunday).

The town’s darts supremo beat the 16-time world champion Phil Taylor 7-6 in a tense match.

Gary led Taylor 3-1 then trailed the match before going 6-4 ahead. Taylor showed all his experience to level it at 6-6, leading to a dramatic final set at Alexandra Palace.

Gary won the first leg of the decider and when Taylor missed a double-12 in the next, the Burnham player capitalised and went on to seal victory and pick up the £250,000 winning cheque.

Burnham’s Mayor, Cllr Martin Cox, said he was delighted at the result, telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is a fantastic result and I congratulate Gary on such a fantastic win. I look forward to welcoming him back to Burnham and recognising this superb achievement which I feel we should all celebrate.”

The Mayor added: “We now have two world champions in Burnham after Liam Phillips’ BMX win in 2013 which is great in helping to put Burnham on the map.”

Gary lives in Burnham-On-Sea with his partner Rachel and his two sons Ryan and Joe.

Last December, we reported here how Gary had won the Players Championship. In 2013 we reported here Gary’s involvement in a local fundraising event for the Oaktree Arena in Highbridge.
