Ugandan headteacher welcomed in visit to Highbridge school

A headteacher from Kampala has been welcomed to Highbridge during a visit to the town's King Alfred School.

Benedict Ssaazi, a Headteacher and Geographer from St Charles Lwanga School in Kampala, visited the school's geography department.

The Year 8 geography classes benefited from presentations about life in Uganda and opportunities to ask Mr Benedict questions, while the sixth form sociology classes spoke to Mr Benedict about different norms and values in Ugandan culture.

The visitor also met with different teachers and members of the school's senior leadership team to find out more about processes such as intervention, target setting and supporting literacy.

He also visited Churchfield School in Highbridge and Fishponds Academy in Bristol.

Teachers Mrs Owen and Mr Witts were delighted to take Mr Benedict to London to see the sights, which inclyded a tour of the Houses of Parliament organised by Burnham and Highbridge MP James Heappey.

The link between the schools will grow in the future, with a poetry exchange being organised for year 7 and 8 students and the geography department linking the schools though Skype.
