Fresh concerns have been expressed this week about proposals to build thousands of new homes in Burnham and Highbridge.

Over 50 residents attended a consultation session in Highbridge where Sedgemoor District Council staff, pictured, were on hand to answer questions.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last month how thousands of new homes could be built in Burnham and Highbridge under plans unveiled for the future of the town.

“We had a good flow of visitors at this week’s consultation in Highbridge,” council spokesman Nick Tait told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Many expressed concern about potential new housing in the area,” he added.

“People are interested in hearing more information about the flood risks and infrastructure issues.”

The council’s plan, right, outlines how potential new development across Sedgemoor would take place up to the year 2032.

The Council has produced a consultation document and is currently inviting comments until December 18th, after which the Local Plan will be re-drafted, incorporating the changes, and published for further consultation next year. It will then be subject to examination by planning inspectors.

The consultation document, initial Sustainability Appraisal Report and other relevant supporting documents, can be found on the Council’s website here or at the Sedgemoor District Council Offices, Bridgwater House, Kings Square, Bridgwater, TA6 3AR Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 5.00pm.
