new promotion has been launched in Burnham-On-Sea to boost town
centre shops in the wake of last week's Morrisons closure as talks
continue over the site's future.
signs have been installed outside the former Morrisons store in
Pier Street to promote independent shops in a bid to keep trade
in the town.
closed down its store at the end of November with the loss of
dozens of jobs. Rumours have been circulating in recent days that
several retailers may be interested in taking over the site.
Centre Manager Bev Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "As
the Town Centre Manager I am continuing my frequent communication
between Burnham Chamber of Trade, the freeholder and Sedgemoor
District Council, sharing information as and when we each receive
it. This has included passing on leads from members of the public."

to put up information boards outside the store which stress that
Burnham-On-Sea is open for business."

72% of which are independents. Many of these offer the same goods
and services that were available at Morrisons and I urge people
to explore the town centre."
