£5,000 upgrade of Burnham play park completed for summer holidays

A play area in Burnham-On-Sea has received a £5,000 upgrade in time for the start of the school holidays.

Sedgemoor District Council has this week announced that Crosses Penn play area, next to Burnham's Manor Gardens, has received an upgrade with a new modern basket swing.

The swing, costing £5,545, has been installed along with new wet pour safety surfacing by the council’s parks budget.

A Sedgemoor spokesperson told "The basket swing is proving popular with children of all ages as several children can have fun using it at the same time. Investment in play is very important to Sedgemoor District Council, children and young people benefit greatly from having a variety of play and sport facilities to explore with their peers and such equipment helps to ensure they lead an active and creative lifestyle."

"Two of the four toddler swings will also shortly be replaced with junior seats so there will be three varieties of swings available in the park for all ages of children to enjoy."

This is the second upgrade the Crosses Penn play area has received within the past year. During 2014, the junior multi-play unit was replaced with a more modern and innovative design, costing £15,000 which was funded through RLT2 developer contributions.
