A two-minute silence was observed art ceremonies in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge to remember the nation’s war dead on Armistice Day.

The silence began at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – the time in 1918 when the guns fell silent along the Western Front in Europe.

Burnham’s ceremony took place next to the town flag pole in Pier Street when residents and local councillors gathered to join in. The Mayoress Cllr Maria Clarke led the proceedings and two minutes silence.

In Highbridge a short service of remembrance was held in the Memorial Gardens at Southwell House, off Church Street, conducted by local clergy and a wreath was also laid.
