Weather fails to dampen spirits at Burnham lifeboat station open days

Hundreds of pounds was raised for the RNLI when Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station held an open weekend over the Bank Holiday.

The station in Burnham's Pier Street saw a quiet time during Saturday's poor weather, but the visitor numbers picked up during Sunday, as holidaymakers braved the elements to find somewhere to go.

"The teddy tombola was extremely popular, courtesy of fundraiser Sandra King’s niece Emily, who was really upset at not being able to attend due to an attack of chicken pox," said a spokesman.

"Thanks go to all the fund-raisers who attended, especially ice-cream seller Marc Lynham, and snack caravan ‘Dave’s Diner’, who donated their time over the weekend, and volunteer Mike Hookway, who ran a book and game stall."

Fundraisers Treasurer Jan Pearce said: "A total of £535 was raised from the weekend, which, considering the inclement weather, was not too bad at all."
